P.R.O.U.D, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that aims to bring about awareness, support, and encouragement in families and those living with Autism or other Developmental Disorders. It’s about giving all special needs parents a voice while motivating and uplifting one another. P.R.O.U.D. is a support system for parents and families and is a proud representation for special needs children and families through raising awareness. It’s about research, seeking knowledge, and gaining wisdom hence the acronym “Parents Reaching Out to Understand Developmental Delays.” Every day is a learning experience for all parents and for special needs parents, it’s an ever-changing, never ending, colorful journey, which we all should be proud to be a part of.
Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person’s lifetime. People with ASD have problems with social and communication skills. Many people with ASD also have unusual ways of learning, paying attention, or reacting to sensations. It is part of a group of disorders known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In most cases its causes are unknown.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that approximately 1 in 68 American children are on the autism spectrum. More specifically, it’s estimated that 1 in 42 boys, and 1 in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the U.S. Autism does not discriminate across cultures or ethnicities.
P.R.O.U.D, Inc. (Parents Reaching Out to Understand Developmental Delays) is an organization to raise awareness for Autism and special needs. The mission is to provide a voice for special needs parents and create opportunities for families of children with developmental delays.
The purpose of P.R.O.U.D, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 (c) (3) or the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
